Evelyn Minver - Ellie W

evelyn_minver@brokenworld.chaosdeathfish.com

Evelyn Minver is in her mid 20's. She has made it her responsibility to make sure that the Union Postal service is maintained to the highest standard. Those who know her will know she has a head for logistics, is fairly knowledgable about the world and knows how to talk to people. She is known for her desire to see the postal service expand to beyond the Union and for her striving to uphold the motto “Neither rain nor snow nor gloom of night can stay these messengers about their duty”.

Eternity

Fortune Cookies

When the Fortune Cookie was first invented, they were a major fad within the GPU for a while. Evelyn herself tried a few, but more often than not, somehow seemed to end up getting the same message:

You shall become that which you sought to destroy.

A Letter Undelivered

Within the Undelivered Archives of the Post Office, there sits a letter to Evelyn Minver herself, never received because insufficient postage was paid on it, and nobody within the Post Office thought to get it to her.

Dear Evelyn,

We have known each other for a little while now, and although we got off on the wrong foot because of circumstances, you were always so kind to me, and understanding. So I wanted to get to know you better, because the truth is, I love you. I loved you right from the start when we first met, even though I was your prisoner. The way you always look out for your friends, and how you try to bring peace for everybody. I want to be a part of that too, and I want to be with you because when I'm around you… it makes me happy. I know this may seem a little sudden, so perhaps we should do more things together. Maybe go for a nice dinner together some time. Please let me know how you feel.

With love,
Talvi

FAO: Guildmaster

If you are reading this, then I am dead, or have been compromised in some way that I might as well be so. Thus you must learn the truths within this message.

Although publicly the position of “Arch Lector” was long-ago abolished, this was only in the public eye. In truth, the position has been secretly maintained by myself in the years since the disappearance of Arbiter Kalanar. Although appearing to act as an advisor and information-gatherer, the old spy networks of the Union remain even to this day, and they are mine to command.

Or at the very least, they were. But if I am now unable to keep this up then the torch must be passed to you. One person can not do it all, and you must find somebody else, somebody who can really be trusted, to either take up the task or to become the new Guildmaster if you seek to do it yourself. Then go to the Post Office's central sorting office and look for letters in the Undelivered Archives addressed to one Septimus Finch. But however you do it, the public must never know of this. Let them think that they have their privacy and continue keeping a watchful eye out, for the sake of peace and nothing else.

Evelyn Minver, Arch Lector

P.S.: Oleg, if you are still the Guildmaster by the time this is sent out, then I know we had our disagreements and I wasn't entirely trusting of you, but I hope that, at least in my memory, you can be trusted with this. You were there when Kalanar was taken care of, so you saw what he was like. A position like this wasn't meant for people like that. Use it to keep the peace.

An Excerpt From "Repairing the World", by Saul Mope

…those of Evelyn Minver, a woman with whom I had some difficulties due to my own misguided attempts to help the world going terribly wrong, as I shall explain later, although we later went on to become acquaintances. She was a dedicated woman with a mission, to ensure that the Post Gets Through. Later going on to become the Guildmaster of the Union before retiring to an advisory position after the forming of the GPU, we must not forget her initial efforts with the Post Office and its early expansion across all of the colonies. Following the dark times of “The Black Lightning”, this expansion of the service was the first true attempt to unite the world as a whole in some way, allowing far better communication the world across, and truly an inspiration for the efforts which were to eventually follow some years later…

Ruins of a Lost Civilisation

Salta Fren disengages his nuclear-powered jetpack and takes a look around his current area. A single fragment, believed to contain ruins of an ancient, long-lost civilisation… certainly there is rubble around which suggests that there could have been some kind of building here, but there do not seem to be any surviving documents or any items of particular interest… how boring.

But wait, there is the sound of one of his team calling him over. He goes to them to see what all the fuss is about. They seem to have found something… something active. Salta commands his chief scientist to scan it and see what he can find about the object, and himself gives it a once over with his Bacon Resonance Meter to check for any unusual signs. Most scans give only mundane readings, but it seems that the Vitalitometer is giving some reading, and the Vitality Pulse Encoder might even be able to communicate with it. As the team leader, Salta grabs the device and begins typing into its console.

<< What are you?
>> I AM BUT A TOOL. I HAVE NO NAME.
<< What is your purpose?
>> I WAS MADE TO SORT LETTERS. THE POST MUST GET THROUGH.
<< Were letters the most common form of communication when your people were alive?
>> LETTERS ARE THE MOST COMMON FORM OF COMMUNICATION. MY PEOPLE ARE ALIVE. BUT NOBODY IS SENDING LETTERS ANY MORE. NO MORE WORK SORTING LETTERS. THE POST MUST GET THROUGH.
<< Who is your leader?
>> EVELYN MINVER. THE KEEPER OF THE POST OFFICE. TOMAS STANISLAVSKI. THE ONE WHO AWAKENED ME.

This exchange continues for some time. All the while Salta makes notes. Eventually he is content and his team returns to their base fragment to analyse their findings further. Salta throws down his notes, and stares at what he has recorded. Wondering what to include in his report, he winds up looking over the same words again and again, deep in thought:
