The Past

By nature, you are survivors. By necessity, you are nomads. All your life you have traveled together from stone to stone, forced on by dwindling supplies, storm wracked homes, bloodthirsty raiders, and the slow descent of old stones into the mists.

That way of life may be about to change.

The fragments, in their endless drifting, rising and falling, have brought you to something wondrous; a field of fragments, all rich in stone, soil and greenery, clustered around a towering central fragment. To see so many fragments at the same time is wondrous enough. That they seem to stay together is a miracle. Clan elders predict that this mass of land, the Archipelego, could provide a home for many generations to come.

The Arrival

You've been eking out only just enough of an existence to support you and your family, and so without delay you make the journey from your mediocre and drained fragment to this brave new world. Your fragments meet, you make the crossing, then prepare to explore your new home, searching for a suitable place to settle your clan.

In doing so, you discover other pioneers in a similar situation to your own. They too have only just happened upon this world. They too were living on fragments that seemed exhausted and soon to fail. You part, aiming to meet again once your clan are more settled. Once the fields are tilled, homes are built, and your house is in order.

The Summons

One day, a few months after your arrival, your work is suddenly interrupted by a strange premonition. Without thinking, you turn your head to the towering central fragment. At that moment, lightning lances down, momentarily illuminating an ancient-looking structure at the highest point of that stone. Your clan convenes, and you quickly agree to send someone to investigate.

That someone turns out to be you.

As you make the arduous crossings towards this temple, you discover that you are not the only pilgrim. It seems every clan you know, and many you don't have sent a member. You journey together, meeting up with more and more pilgrims until you are at the gates of the mysterious structure, numbering dozens.
