Neighbours

In the Broken World the most common setup is a Fragment shared by a few clans who supply the fragment with resources, be they food, goods, skills or entertainment. The people who inhabit your fragment with you are your neighbours, and are very important to your clan. Typically there will be a lot of interaction with your neighbours. Traders come and go, bringing information and gossip as well as goods and services with them.

With your migration to the Archipelago, you are faced with the challenge of new neighbors. Whether they become a new rival, or a new ally, will be determined soon, and shape the future of your clan.

How they are useful

Neighbours can be helpful as they are often a useful source of allies, as whatever threatens you is likely also to impact on them. Marriage alliances are common among neighbours, not only because they are an easy source of non blood related singletons but also as warring on a fragment spells disaster for all involved.

How they are Unhelpful

On the other hand it is very hard to keep things secret from your neighbours, as due to this interweaving it's quite likely that your brothers wife is from your neighbours clan, and so anything you get up to is being referred back to your neighbour.

(This means your Neighbours will get snippets of information about what you’re up to, If you're sacrificing virgins in your basement, your neighbours won’t know this, but they will probably see that your clan gets on well with young innocent girls and boys.)

You can keep things quiet with extra time and effort. If you’re building an army of metal men, then normally your neighbours would notice you taking in large amounts of iron ore. However you can take extra time to smuggle the ore in during the dead of night to avoid suspicion.

Allocation

The allocation of your neighbours is random as no one can predict how and when the fragments are going to come together. Linked character concepts or concepts that are obviously isolated will be considered on a case by case basis.
