Dead to Rights

The many arrests of Marshall Craddock;

Arbiter Kalanar, I hereby arrest you in the name of the Union, for charges of incompetence, negligence, conspiracy, treason and *huff huff* resisting arrest!

”…at this point, the accused did not submit to justice, and instead proceeded to attack my person with fists and the like. Attempting to subdue the accused, I did respond with punches of my own, beating the accused thoroughly. The accused did then entirely of his own will fling himself off the side of the Misthorse, and as he fell performed some final act of runic destruction that destroyed not only the accused but the remains of the Fallen fragment.”

Clintina Spacepuny, I hereby arrest you in the name of the Union, for charges of Murder and aiding and abetting enemies of the Union!

”…the accused did not take well to such accusations, attempting to flee in her flying barn. With her hiding place in the Knights of the Storm gone, though, it was easy to track her down and arrest her. The prosecution recommends the accused undergo psychological assessment, to determine the degree her actions were excused by the Mist.”

Eventual Departure

“Though he still served as one of the best damn officers I ever saw, it was clear his heart wasn't in it any more. It was a sad, sad day when he gave me his badge; somehow I always thought I'd be shouting at him to give it to me, rather than pleading with him not to give it up. All because of that damned name… In any case, we were all there to wave him off at the port, as he loaded up his racing fragment with his personal goods and flew away into the Stormset, and, Founders strike me down if a lie, but I could swear he looked almost happy, like the weight of the world had been lifted off his shoulders leaving him free to go his own way. I'll drink to his luck, that's for sure, wherever he may be.”

-Head Marshall Amarant Hauser

The Ballad of Craddock

A song sang in Guildhalls long after the deeds of the man himself have faded from living memory.

My daddy left home when I was three
And he didn't leave much to ma and me
Just this old badge and an empty bottle of booze.
Now, I don't blame him cause he run and hid
But the meanest thing that he ever did
Was before he left, he went and named me “Sue.”

Well, he must o' thought that is quite a joke
And it got a lot of laughs from a' lots of folk,
It seems I had to fight my whole life through.
Some gal would giggle and I'd get red
And some guy'd laugh and I'd bust his head,
I tell ya, life ain't easy for a boy named “Sue.”

Well, I grew up quick and I grew up mean,
My fist got hard and my wits got keen,
I'd roam from clan to clan to hide my shame.
But I made a vow after one last brawl
That I'd search every last old guildhall
And kill that man who gave me that awful name.

Well I fought for law and all that passed by
Then I met that Confed passion guy
Said he’d find my father, tell ya true.
He took my hair and he took my blood
Came back and told me under 6 feet of mud
Lay the dirty, mangy dog that named me Sue.

Figurin’ that was the end of that,
I went back to the badge and the Marshall’s hat,
Jailing bastards rotten through and through.
But at the Temple, my blood ran cold,
As Death himself, smarmy and bold,
Told those there my secret name was Sue.

Well I tried to cope the best I could
But I could see it was doin’ no good
Everyone hiding a smirk when they heard my name.
Finished my business, turned in my badge
Said goodbye to the friends I had
Travelled away to find a place I could hide my shame

Now thinkin’, I reckon that the world is rough,
And if a man’s gonna make it, he’s gotta be tough,
And my pa knew he wouldn’t be there to help me along.
So he give me that name and he said goodbye
An’ knew I'd have to get tough or die
And it's the name that helped to make me strong.
And I think about him now and then,
Every time I try and every time I win,
And if I ever have a son, I think I'm gonna name him
Bill or George! Anything but Sue! I still hate that name!
