If you believe what they say, the Earthborne are a most ancient clan, possibly even going back to the original Breaking. What is certain is that over the centuries that they have travelled the world they have gathered a most impressive amount of knowledge of geomancy and the fragments. Geomancers are incredibly common in this family, although not normally nearly as skilled as their current protégé, Eugene Sherlock.
